Pigeon Control

Pigeon control is usually required when unwanted pigeons decide to roost or nest on the ledges of your building.

Here at Detera Pigeon we manufacture pigeon pest control spikes that are ideal as a "Roost Modification Device". Roost modification means changing the ledges of a building in such a way that pigeons no longer wish to land on them.

The changing of ledges by applying anti-roosting spikes is a very humane method of pigeon control.

This is because the spikes do not actually hurt the pigeons; they simply act as a physical barrier, preventing pigeons from landing.

Other pigeon pest control techniques, that involve killing, usually fail as new pigeons will quickly move into the area.

All in all we believe our pigeon control spikes to be the most effective, humane pigeon control solution available.

We are often asked why we do not recommend killing pigeons as a form of pest control? Take the example of a store with a severe pigeon control problem; Imagine that nuisance pigeons are roosting above the store entrance on signs, windows, pipes and other ledges lets say 50 pigeons are the culprits which are part of a flock of 200 birds in the area.

Now a flock size is always directly proportionate to the amount of available food in that area. Should the quantity of food available reduce then the pigeons control their breeding habits so that their numbers reduce back to a level sustainable by the amount of available food.

Should a store holder arrange for pigeon control in the form of killing the 50 nuisance pigeons then the remaining pigeons will almost immediately increase their breeding and replace the 50 pigeons that have been killed, within months.

This is of course due to the fact that there became an increased level of food available to the remaining pigeons.

As the numbers of pigeons increase so they return to the ledges above the store.

The pigeon control solution should have been to install pigeon control anti roosting spikes onto the ledges; but maybe more importantly worked with local government to reduce the food supply of the pigeons thus providing a longer term solution. See prices of our pigeon control spikes.
